Witness evidence by Abdul Ahmed

Key comments and observations of a confused man

Asked about the silver BMW 6 Series with its black roof that ***** and Moore were in, AA said: "It could be silver . . . I think it was a silver car . . . a small car, about the size of a Ford Fiesta."

Asked whether the passenger in the silver car was sitting in the front or the back, AA said: "I dunno where he was sitting."

On the actual stabbing, AA said: "I dunno who stabbed him but something I saw. It was quick, they stabbed him quickly."

AA contradicts *****'s account that he was struck on top of his head by Robert Darby, when the witness says: "The driver of the (black) BMW didn't hit the man in any way. The two drivers probably touched. Neither of them disappeared from my view or ducked down behind the level of the car."

Asked if he saw anyone else in the black BMW, AA said; "No, not at all, I didn't see any." But we know for a fact that Paul Hunt was DEFINITELY in that car and most likely got out of the vehicle as the incident unfolded.

Asked by DC Bartle if he would recognise anyone again, AA replied: "Err, no." Yet he subsequently picked Jason Moore's photo in a further ID parade SEVEN YEARS after the incident.

AA admitted he was "some distance away" from the incident.

Police failed to pursue with AA the fact that his view was obscured by a car and therefore he couldn't have seen an upward movement of the knife into Darby's chest.

On his ability to see the knife at the time of the stabbing, AA said: "I was walking (sic) my head down." He admitted: "I did have doubt about who did the stabbing and how it was done."

AA originally described the driver of the silver BMW as having "fluffy hair, about two inches out of his head". This resembles Jason much more than it does *****, although we believe he has really seen Paul Hunt. He mistook Hunt as the driver, and ***** as the passenger.
